Poems and Verses
A best friend is like a diamond,
precious and rare
False friends are like leaves,
found everywhere.
A bird is three things: feathers, flight and song,
And feathers are the least of these.
At last I hold her in my hands, the shining bird whose flight along
the perilous rim of trees
Has made my days adventuresome, my spirit strong.
And now her wings are still, her vivid song but ceaseless twitterings.
Her words are feathers falling lightly, relentlessly and without rest,
Revealing to my face her pinched and starveling breast
A shattered flash of wings, a broken song
Echo and shine along the rim of trees.
A dog has more compassion
Than many people do
The world may be unkind
But a dog remains so true
They smile and wag their tails
That they love is not so odd
And if you spell 'dog' backwards
Feel the grace of God
~ James T. Adair
A dog is made of a head and tail and paws and ears and itches And when he sleeps upon your bed, he snuggles close and twitches He dreams dog dreams of cats and bones and gently runs in place And when he wakes he yawns and wags and washes off your face
A fighter to the very end,
A brother and a special friend
A rat who filled our hearts with love,
And now you're watching from above
But you won't be alone up there,
Because you'll be with Nougie Bear
We'll hold you in our hearts forever
And hope that you're now back together
~ Maya Hayden – Evans
A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.
A friend is someone who inspires, who challenges, who sends you in search of some truer sense of yourself.
A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.
A friend is someone you tell your stories to,
A best friend was in all those stories.
A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out…
A good friend is a connection to life- a tie to the past,a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world
A good friend knows all your best stories
A best friend has lived them with you.
A kitten with a length of string
is such a pretty, playful thing.
A kitten with a leaf to chase
exhibits beauty, form and grace.
But I love kittens curled up, wise,
with ancient mystery in their eyes.
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
A single rose can be my garden
A single friend, my world.
Almost any household item,
When appraised by kitten eyes,
Offers joy Ad Infinitum,
And we learn, with some surprise:
Cupboards are for hiding in,
Curtains are to climb,
Washers are for riding in,
(What a hectic time!)
House plants are for digging paws,
Papers are to tear,
Just the sharpener for claws
Is Dad's upholstered chair.
Yet man and feline share some views
When all is done and said;
When one's inclined to take a snooze,
The other's in the bed.
Always remember and never forget, that everyone you meet loves someone, misses someone or has lost someone
An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language
As I whispered goodbye to nature
holding my tiny bird in the palm of my hands
Beautiful golden colors began to surround me
A hint of heaven in my soul I sensed
My love more powerful then my fear
This little bird with which my heart so lovingly dealt
It made my eyes sparkle with happy tears
While it flew into the heavenly world where only joy is felt
Because I'm only human,
It's sometimes hard to be
The wise, all-knowing creature
That my cat expects of me.
And so I pray for special help
To somehow understand
The subtle implications
Of each proud meowed command.
Oh, let me not forget that chairs
Were put on earth to shred;
And what I like to call a lap
Is actually a bed.
I know it's really lots to ask
But please, oh please, take pity;
And though I'm only human,
Make me worthy of my kitty!
Best friends are with you the yesterday before the beginning
and will be there until the tomorrow after forever.
Brown is my colour.
My fur is so fluffy like no other.
Tail is so bushy; nose is so pink.
Whiskers so long, they make me unique.
Pointed ears on top of my head,
I can’t wait until I am fed
Who am I, What can I be?
I’m a cute little bunny;
That's me!
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
Cats sleep, anywhere,
Any table, any chair
Top of piano, window-ledge,
In the middle, on the edge,
Open drawer, empty shoe,
Anybody's lap will do,
Fitted in a cardboard box,
In the cupboard, with your frocks-
Anywhere! They don't care!
Cats sleep anywhere.
Chickens are great companions,
If only more people knew how smart and lovable they can be.
Every little thing about you was so sweet and endearing
Always delighting me and giving me Joy. Little Bundle of Happiness,
I'll always miss you
~ Shu Yen
Faster than the wind
Catching spirits of the past
He ran up through the clouds
To meet them in that field of grass.
His legs straight and strong
His eyes flashing a smile
He's running now with champions
Mile after Mile
~ Fritz Rauschenberg
Feathers Feathers Everywhere
Even some upon my hair
In my face and up my nose
Give them grace your smile shows
Feathers come and feathers go
Sometimes fall all in a row
Don't be sad, only glad
Cause soon they'll be smooth again
Until the next molt shall begin
Feathers Come and Feathers Go...
Feathers, gray and red, so very bright
Spread out or not, such a beautiful sight
Sharp claws, a big black beak with lots of might
On a comfy thick twig, I'd stand
Or I'd perch right on your hand
At times flying carefree of where I land
I'd sit near you or walk around on the floor
I'd hang upside down swinging on the cage door
I did anything to make you laugh even more
Just seeing you laugh was well worth
On my perch, I'd walk back and forth
Dancing, moving my head up and down
Making you smile, erasing the frown
In a huge purple bowl, I'd take a dip
Standing on one foot, my body at a tip
Drying off all my feathers and each wing
Imitating everything, your voice to a telephone ring
Around my cage, I would love to climb
I'd roll on the newspaper time to time
I enjoyed playing with my wooden toys
Mommy would write, I'd think about boys
On the way to my new home, soon I will be
When there, I'll remember all you taught me
Reaching out your hand, my toes around it curled
Knowing I am so blessed you came into my world
You'll always be my mommy, I'll always be your little girl
As I turned my head, I looked into your eye
A tear came from mine as you began to cry
Walking away, not looking back, you did try
Knowing you'd always love me even when saying Bye
I'll always hold our memories so dear
In my heart, you'll always be here
Just promise me, whatever you do
Don't forget, I will always miss you
~ "Ashley's View", by Trish. Poem about an African Grey the writer had over a decade ago; still deeply missed.
Flowers need sunshine,
violets need dew,
all angels in heaven know I need you.
Follow the yellow brick road and just wait for me there
Friend isn't just a word. Friends are about the heart.
Friends are kisses blown to us by angels.
Friends are like angels who lift us to our feet
When our wings forget to fly.
Friends should be like books; few, but hand-selected.
Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief
Friendship is a promise made in the heart;
Silent,
Unwritten,
Unbreakable by distance,
Unchangeable by time.
Friendship isn't a big thing – it is a million little things.
Friendship isn't about whom you have known the longest... It's about who came, and never left your side...
Full of spirit, not yet a fledgeling
Our lovable darling duckling,
Your courage made us smile
Wanting to go the extra mile.
Seeing your dedication to strive
Showed us the purpose of life.
~ Mathilde de Jong
Geese are loud, but for a reason
To stay together throughout every season
Performing the perfect fly-over at Washington's Mall
Hereby honoring the fallen and uplifting us all.
~ Mathilde de Jong
Gentle eyes that see so much, Paws that have the quiet touch, Purrs to signal "all is well" And show more love than words could tell. Graceful movements touched with pride, A calming presence by our side A friendship that takes time to grow Small wonder why we love them so.
He blinks upon the hearth-rug,
and yawns in deep content,
Accepting all the comforts
that Providence has sent.
Louder he purrs, and louder,
in one glad hymn of praise
For all the night's adventures,
for quiet, restful days.
Life will go on for ever,
with all that cat can wish:
Warmth and the glad procession
of fish and milk and fish.
Only-the thought disturbs him-
he's noticed once or twice,
The times are somehow breeding
a nimbler race of mice.
~ Alexander Gray
How lucky I am to have known someone who was so hard to say goodbye to
How neatly a cat sleeps,
Sleeps with its paws and its posture,
Sleeps with its wicked claws,
And with its unfeeling blood,
Sleeps with all the rings--
A series of burnt circles--
Which have formed the odd geology
Of its sand-colored tail.
However rare true love may be, it is less so than true friendship.
I am a little bunny
Eyes on the sides of my head
I see to the left and right,
Behind me and ahead.
I am a little bunny,
These are my very long ears
They help me hear many sounds,
I can hear from far and near.
I am a little bunny,
My strong legs are for jumping
Warning others of danger,
I use my feet for thumping.
I am a mother bunny,
With a white and fluffy tail
I lift it up into the air,
Babies now follow my trail.
I believe in angels, the kind that heaven sends.
I'm surrounded by angels, and I call them my best friends.
I count every breath,
Every beat of your heart,
Because a piece of me knows,
That we’ll soon be apart.
Your body’s so cold,
But you’re still hanging on,
I’m proud of you, Baby,
But its ok to move on.
The tears won’t stop,
And I know that you’re gone.
Your brother’s beside you,
Like he’s been all along.
I miss you already,
And Dougal does too,
But I promise we’ll care for him,
Like he did for you.
Oh, Nougie, my baby,
Your life’s been too short,
These years have been precious,
For me and for George.
And I hope that you’re happy,
Wherever you are.
My ratty, my angel,
My own shining star.
In loving memory of Nougat
~ Maya Hayden – Evans
I cried so hard the day you left
I felt so all alone.
But when I searched into your eyes
I could see that you had gone.
Just yesterday you licked my face
I didn't know 'twould be the last
To feel your nose upon my cheek
Just once more is all I ask
But then I prayed to Jesus
Please watch over my best friend
And He told me He would hold you
Until we meet again.
Until then...
I think of you each day!
I first saw you running wild,
with the wind blowing through your mane,
And I'd give everything I have,
to get you back again.
We grew up together,
our spirits always free,
But when the time came,
I knew you had to leave.
I sat beside you thinking,
if this was the last goodbye,
What words could say the thoughts,
that made me want to cry.
I stood up and walked away,
my heart lying in two,
One piece stayed with me,
the other went with you.
You called out one last farewell,
as I ran away from the pain,
I knew that I would miss you,
but there was so much you would gain.
Your pain would finally be over,
your suffering was near the end,
And although I would always miss you,
my heart would slowly mend.
But although the years will pass,
and one day I have to grow,
I'll never forget the love,
of the mare that I loved so.
~ Renee Forbes
I hear of a place that is made of gold,
a place where we shall never grow old,
But one answer I have not heard at all,
will there be paw prints from my little dog?
He promised us joy right from the start,
I just wonder if she'll be a part.
So as I sit here and dream of the day,
I wonder if in heaven she will stay?
When walking down with the Saints of old
please take a glimpse of that new road
And if there you shall see,
maybe a pawprint just for me.
I know where you are can hold no fears,
but our memories on earth still bring me to tears.
I thank you god, for lending me,
the best horse that ever could be.
Each day I wake to think of you,
your gentle whinnie still rings true.
I have your shoe hung above my bed,
a constant reminder of the ground we tread.
~ Hannah Mercedes
I left for the rainbow bridge after I died,
I knew you were sad as I saw when you cried.
I want you to know I still love you alot,
You were the person I never forgot.
You were the one who would clean out my hutch,
You gave me kisses and cuddles and such.
You filled my water and food to the top,
You really loved it whenever I'd hop.
I want you to know that I'm happy here now,
I never feel pain or grow older somehow.
There's so many bunnies to play with up here,
But I still think of you with a fond little tear.
Whenever a rainbow you see with your eye,
Remember it's me on that bridge in the sky.
But don't feel sad as I'm trying to say,
"There's no need to worry for I am okay!"
I looked into your open eyes-
no one but me heard my cries.
I knew the truth straight away-
your gallant spirit had flown away.
A spirit that was still strong and bold-
yet trapped in a body that had become old.
I knew your heart was growing weak-
still, I was not prepared for your final sleep.
~ Curtis J. Forsythe
I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silent thoughts with me...
She'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to His golden throne.
Although me eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with her bark.
I never thought I'd own a bird, Dogs were really more "my thing" But now I have 6 budgie fids, My little puppies, but with wings. My first boy Puppy- Unexpected. Found him in my own backyard. Didn't think that I would keep him, Didn't think he'd break my guard. Before I knew it he was *mine* Made his way into my heart. He is the reason I'm a "bird girl"... Puppy was the very start. ~ Christine
I saw two little love birds sat up in a tree
Very much in love as happy as can be
They would kiss each other with their little beak
Then cuddle up so closely touching cheek to cheek
It was nice to watch as lovely as can be
I sat there a while wishing it was me
Then they flew away up in the sky above
Flying side by side so very much in love
I saw two love birds kissing sat up in a tree
It was very beautiful I wished that it was me
Standing close together with a life so free
Very much in love the way that love should be
Then they flew away in perfect harmony
These pretty little birds brought a tear to me
I sit and try to write the words,
I want your heart to hear.
Hoping to find some comfort,
in the fact that you're not here.
I look out into the open field,
that you once occupied,
Knowing now that field is empty, because my love, you've died.
I do believe with all my heart,
that your soul has gone to be,
with all the other angel dogs,
that you were meant to see.
We will have to stay behind,
until God calls us too,
So do not be afraid, that he's only called for you.
The water is still, in the pond
that you played,
And your bed is so empty,
where your pretty head laid.
Our bed is too empty, where you once laid between, the two people who LOVED you and now only dream,
That one day our eyes will shut one last time, and you will come greet us, angel of mine.
Until then, I'll keep trying to see through my tears,
With memories you left us, to reflect through the years.
We'll never forget one minute we spent, of loving and laughing, of places we went.
And I dread the day that your scent disappears, for it's "proof" to me, Shockie, that you were just here!
But one day will come, when we'll start to see through,
the pain of the moment, and remember just "you".
Now you go and play, and look down when you can, remembering we love you, and this isn't the end.
~ Holly W. Gray, tribute to her Golden Retriever Shockoe
I sleep on your bed, making it my own,
and when you are away, I’m at home all alone.
I walk around the food bowl, sniffing out what’s there,
and if there’s nothing good, I look at you and stare.
I curl up near the fire place warming up my paws,
I pounce upon the scratch post, sharpening my claws.
I see a mouse in front staring straight at me,
I run and try to catch it but it runs away from me.
You see I am so cute, so gorgeous with my fur,
when you stroke my head I close my eyes and purr.
I think that I have never heard
A poem lovely as a bird,
Who nestles in cathedral spires
And ornaments our telephone wires,
Who perches high in trees to watch
And spends the day in twittering klatsch.
Cheerful all the livelong day,
They tell us good news in their way;
Reminding us that love is free,
As close to angels what we see.
I thought of you with love today,
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too.
I think of you in silence
I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I'll never part
God has you in His keeping
I have you in my heart.
I walked along the path and there
a flash of eyes, a golden pair,
the pupils slit and feline shy
the creature looked me in the eye.
His colour was an orange shock
a furry, puffed up, fancy frock,
with streaks and lines of creamy hair
he did not break his intense stare.
Frozen bodies, eyes still locked
he seemed no longer to be shocked,
instead now sure I posed no threat
I saw this cat was no one's pet.
There was no collar on his neck,
a wild hunter on a trek,
distracted by some human man,
then off into the grass he ran.
I will lend to you for awhile a kitten, God said
For you to love while he lives,
and mourn when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'til I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
and should his stay be brief
You'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below
I want this kitten to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowds life's land I have chosen you.
I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to fall
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before
I'll be there for you, 'cause you're there for me too
I'll never forget the day I found you,
Ranger you started it all.
That day that I first looked in your eyes
Never dreaming how deep I'd fall.
You were my friend and my partner.
You'll always be special to me.
Where ever you went, you brought sunshine.
You were all I wanted a donkey to be.
~ Kathy Taylor
I'm only a cat,
and I stay in my place...
Up there on your chair,
on your bed or your face!
I'm only a cat,
and I don't finick much...
I'm happy with cream
and anchovies and such!
I'm only a cat,
and we'll get along fine...
As long as you know
I'm not yours... you're all mine!
If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever. ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson
If all our chickens were given a name
People's plates wouldn't look the same
There would be Mary, Karen and Dan
Beings to relate to and not for in a pan
~ Mathilde de Jong
If you believe in Afterlife
And other things like that
Can I suggest you try real hard
To come back as a cat
Now don’t be fooled in thinking
That we have a life of ease
Would you like to be spayed or chased
By animals with fleas?
Yes we have our moments
Of fuss we never tire
But as soon as some thing’s broken
We’re in the line of fire!
So, I’m here to sell my species
Please don’t begrudge me that
If you want to live the high life
Then come back as a cat!
~ Simon Gowen
It seems that I've reached Heaven,
or it's doorstep at any rate,
And been winding round St. Peter's ankles
by the Pearly Gates,
I've plucked the angels' harp strings
and made a merry sound,
But it's plucking at my heartstrings
that you are not around.
So I think I'll sit and wait here,
just outside the door,
And as the souls come floating in,
I'll tap them with my paw,
And when you seek admittance,
they'll rename this place -
It will become Purradise,
and these the Purry Gates!
Lay here softly little bird of white
For you, no more flying or cooing in the night
Your perch will set empty with feathers abound
Your life has ended I had to burry you in the ground
So lay here softly in the shade of your tree
The one you flew to when I first set you free
Tomorrow at dawn when the wind is light
You can see your flock high in flight
So sit on your new perch
In the heaven you’ve met
And the white on your wings
I will never forget
Let us be grateful to beings who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
Loneliness is just an illusion for when we ignore those who stand by us
Love is forever
Love is the enchanted dawn of every heart. ~ Alphonse Marie de la Martine
Lovely little canary bird, sing your song
If I like it, I may sing along
You look so cute, sitting in your tree
I’ll protect you, and let you be
Sweet little canary bird, your feathers are bright
They’re beautiful, like a star filled night
Oh little birdie, you see what you do
I can’t hide my emotions, they’re just so true
Please little canary bird, don’t fly away
If you leave my life, I don’t know what I’d say
Please please please, just stay in your tree
Together forever, just you and me.
Mary had a little bird with feathers bright and yellow,
Slender legs -upon my word: he was a pretty fellow!
Sweetest notes he always sung,
Which much delighted Mary
Often where his cage was hung,
She sat to hear Canary.
Crumbs of bread and dainty seeds
She carried to him daily,
Seeking for the early weeds,
She decked his palace gaily.
This, my fine readers, learn
And ever practice duly;
Songs and smiles of love return
To friends who love you truly.
Molly, my sheep was a lovely pet to keep
To have around the home all day
A quiet gentle soul I'd say
She gave bales of fluffy wool
And when the weather got very cool
Many she kept warm, I'm sure
So sad that for her there was no cure
My Cat is the cat of all cats
For she is like a beautiful Painting
She sleeps and awakes in the early morning
To demand her requests for the day.
My Cat is the cat of all cats
She is royal and dignified.
Poets and Writers have long been inspired
She is admired by all who encounter her
My Cat is the cat of all cats
And shall remain so,
Until the end of her nine lives.
My Siamese walked around the house
nosing into this and that
She thought she was a human
and certainly not a cat.
Whatever is mine;
she thought was hers.
Of course she could talk me
into anything with her purrs.
She peered at me through
those lovely blue eyes.
After getting into trouble,
a Siamese voice denies.
I was totally captivated by
her charming ways and cunning
It is hard to be angry at
a cat who is so stunning.
My Siamese could be bossy
and rule the roost
But, when I was feeling down
She always gave me a boost.
~ "SIAMESE POEM" as seen on the template
My Siamese walks around the house
Nosing into this and that
She thinks she is a human
And certainly not a cat.
Whatever is mine;
She thinks is hers
Of course she can talk me
Into anything with her purrs.
She peers at me through
Those lovely blue eyes
After getting into trouble,
Her Siamese voice denies.
I am totally captivated by
Her charming ways and cunning
It is hard to be angry at
A cat who is so stunning.
Her long and slender body
Glides gracefully through the room
She suddenly jumps on the stand,
The lamp comes down with a boom!
I lift her down from the stand,
Gently scold her, to no avail.
She quickly runs away; then
Balances herself on the stair rail.
“Oh Siamese kitty what
will You do next?”...I ask..
She jumps onto my lap,
Giving me love: that’s her next task.
If it is a Siamese cat.
With which you are living,
It is important that you are;
A person who is forgiving.
My Siamese can be bossy.
And rule the roost.
But, when I am feeling down
She gives me a boost.
Whether a Siamese is
Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, or Seal,
Having a Siamese around
Is always a good deal.
So if you don’t have a Siamese,
You had better get one.
And know that life with a Siamese
Is more interesting and fun.
~ "SIAMESE POEM" The whole original poem by Patricia Maddox
My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.
My best friends are like a fairytale.
They've been there since once upon a time and will be there until forever after.
My body is gone, but I’m always near
I’m everything you feel, see or hear
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
My cat was so loving and kind
He will never leave my mind
With a fur so soft,
the fairest silk could not compare
I loved him so very much,
Though nobody may care
My cat was amazing
So I just can’t help but share.
My friendly cow all brown and white,
I loved with all my heart:
She gave me cream with all her might,
To eat with apple-tart.
She wandered lowing here and there,
And yet she wouldn't stray,
All in the pleasant open air,
The pleasant light of day;
And blown by all the winds that pass,
And wet with all the showers,
She walked among the meadow grass
And ate the meadow flowers.
My horse left me today,
as you already know,
I guess he was never really mine,
as time proved to show.
He is no longer here,
He left sooner than planned
Though I know you needed him,
it is hard to understand.
He was the carrier of my burdens,
in everything he gave his all.
But even the strongest of mountains,
will all someday fall.
You must have seen he was tired,
and you told him, "Today is the day",
it is time for him to go home,
and that's where he'll stay.
Please tell him I will be there,
and my love is still the same.
Though our paths have divided,
I am happy to me he came.
I trust you to be with him,
until I am able.
I know of anyone you'll understand,
you were born in a stable...
~ Lacey Kueper
My little bird you were so sweet
Sent down from the heaven's sky to me
I have no idea why you were the sunshine in my day
Special in every way
How you would run around and play through the short Summer days
When I came home you ran to me across the room
Looking up at me from your short little world
It is an unforgettable love
My rooster was a glorious bird
His looks a sight to see
He strutted his stuff around the clock
Protected his hens from any dog
And did it without losing a feather.
Night took a stroll
while we slept soundly
Death took a toll
and we lost a tender soul
The little yellow beak that had gently opened for food lay deathly still –
The tiny body that some hours ago
had moved in rhythm lay cold.
And I sadly wondered:
"the mynah was mine na?"
Is anything really mine…….
~ Shail Raghuvanshi
No chestnut head over the stable door to greet me
No welcoming whinny meets my ears
Just an empty stable
Is all I can see through my tears.
The field you loved to graze in
Now suddenly seems so bare
It only seems like yesterday
That you were galloping about in there.
~ Natalie Bingham
No home is complete without the patter of doggy feet.
No love, no friendship can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever. ~ François Mauriac
No matter how serious life gets, you still need those ones you can be absolutely stupid with.....
No matter how serious life gets, you still need those ones you can be absolutely stupid with.....
No matter how strong or independent you are, you always need friends. They bring happiness to you.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep...
I sleep right in the center groove
My human can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
My nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly, I have sharp teeth -
And my claws I will unsheathe
For the morning's here and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs me and holds me tight
And sacrifices her bed at night
Now if you'd train a parrot, catch him young
While soft the mouth and tractable the tongue.
Old birds are fools: they dodder in their speech,
More eager to forget than you to teach;
They swear one curse, then gaze at you askance,
And all oblivion thickens in their glance.
Thrice blest whose parrot of his own accord
Invents new phrases to delight his lord,
Who spurns the dull quotidian task and tries
Selected words that prove him good and wise.
Ah, once it was my privilege to know
A bird like this . . .
But that was long ago!
O NIGHTINGALE that on yon blooming spray
Warblest at eve, when all the woods are still,
Thou with fresh hopes the Lover’s heart dost fill,
While the jolly Hours lead on propitious May.
Thy liquid notes that close the eye of Day,
First heard before the shallow cuckoo’s bill,
Portend success in love. O if Jove’s will
Have linked that amorous power to thy soft lay,
Now timely sing, ere the rude bird of hate
Foretell my hopeless doom, in some grove nigh;
As thou from year to year hast sung too late
For my relief, yet had’st no reason why.
Whether the Muse or Love call thee his mate,
Both them I serve, and of their train am I.
Ode to Mother Pig
So sweetly she sings to her piglets, wee
While they nurse so hungrily
So motherly and full of pride is she,
Tending to her babies so lovingly
Once you have feelings for someone, it will always be there.
One day when I grow older,
Wings, I wish to sprout,
So I can jump into the sky,
Fly round and all about.
Someday, when I am wiser,
I'll look up in the sky,
Spread my wings and glide,
Through clouds of cotton and sigh.
One day, when I become a hawk,
Or an eagle, tall and proud,
The day when I'm a lovely Macaw,
In a beautiful and colorful shroud.
I'll be free with all the other birds,
A flyer, oh so true
I'll be one... with the sky,
The sky above that's blue.
One is fortunate to find someone who thinks your friendship is priceless
One morning upon my windowsill perched
a Golden Cockatiel who seemed to search.
Marking my morning with a yellow glow,
I think it thrills her to try to know
what kind of haven lies within this place.
Never moving, only peeking!
Gently she watches curiously my face.
Even though she flew away without seeking
exactly what else was in this cage,
At least we shared a moment just simply to engage.
One small cat changes coming home to an empty house, to coming home.
Only a true friend sees invisible tears...
Our special times together
I'll cherish till the end
God gave me such a blessing
When you became my friend!
Over the Rainbow Bridge you went
I always knew you were heaven sent
I cherish our time spent together
Till we meet again... I love you forever
Over the hearth with my 'minishing eyes
I muse until after the last coal dies.
Every tunnel of the mouse, every channel of the cricket,
I have smelt, I have felt the secret shifting of the mouldered rafter,
And heard every bird in the thicket.
I see you nightingale up in the tree!
I, born of a race of strange things,
of deserts, great temples, great kings,
in the hot sands where the nightingale never sings!
Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been?
I've been to London to look at the Queen.
Pussy cat, pussy cat, what did you do there?
I frightened a little mouse under a chair.
Sandpaper kisses
On a cheek or a chin
That is the way
for a day to begin!
Sandpaper kisses
A cuddle and a purr.
I have an alarm clock
That's covered in fur!
She loves the gentle feel
Of sunbeams on her fur,
But as the day wears on,
It gives her cause to stir.
The sun's a fickle lover
Courted in ritual,
By my nomad cat under skylights,
Unable to sit still.
Sixteen years have now gone by
So many times you ran to fly
My heart is sad that you are gone
In my memory you will live on
~ Carol Vanderway
Something about a Chinchilla,
Those big black eyes so bright,
The chirping sounds throughout the night.
Something about a Chinchilla,
When those paws take hold of my hand,
The way you wiggle when rolling in the sand.
Something about a Chinchilla,
That cute way you hold your treat,
Your character so gentle and sweet.
Something about a Chinchilla,
That makes you so special to me,
I fell for you instantly.
Something about a Chinchilla,
I stroke you as you sat on my arm,
Who could resist that Chinchilla charm!
Sometimes she's invisible, perhaps a
movement or the padding of feet,
maybe a blur of black on white.
She's a ghost upon the floorboards,
who scurries out of sight, a pulse,
the throbbing of her breathing
a rhythm of the house.
She is that apparition until
she knows it's time for feeding,
then she's there around your feet,
almost making you trip or sitting in your path,
on the kitchen floor, staring, unflinching eyes wide
and knowing, waiting.
Sometimes the smallest things take the most room in your heart
Somewhere, somewhere in time's own space
There must be some, sweet pastured place
Of pastures green where fresh creeks flow,
Some paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen,
I know great horses live again.
Take, for instance, that impression,
Or belief, to be precise,
That the household cat's profession
Is the art of catching mice.
There is really nothing to it
The idea is obsolete,
For no well-bred cat will do it
Who has the proper food to eat.
The Rainbow Bridge poem:
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
The big brave Angel cat, folding a rainbow wing,
Stretched out his gentle paw, I'll find, purred he,
a kitten-- you were kind--You must not grieve for me.
This one might do, this timid little stray
Terrestrial night to my celestial day; it cannot take my place,
No other could do that, but though you cannot bring me back,
You might retrace remembrance in a kitten's pansy-face.
The cat opened its eyes
The sun got in
The cat closed its eyes
The sun stayed in
That’s why in the night
When the cat is waking
I see in the dark
Bits of sun, shining
The city mouse lives in a house;
The garden mouse lives in a bower,
He's friendly with the frogs and toads,
And sees the pretty plants in flower.
The city mouse eats bread and cheese;
The garden mouse eats what he can;
We will not grudge him seeds and stalks,
Poor little timid furry man.
~ Christina Georgina Rossetti
The gliding pigeon, fell out of the sky
So beautifully executed, as she drifted low from high
Out of the misty cloud she descended, so effortlessly in front of my eye
It was a sunny noon, yet my sences weren't bothered by the acute rays
For the kind pigeon humbled the sun with its marvelous occupying wings.
The falling pigeon, glided down the sky
She made it look pleasantly easy
A priceless painting in my vision . . . has rised !
And from the deepest, darkest well in my heart
A beam of light . . . has shined !
Thank you my dear pigeon
not only you have cleansed my Soul
but also . . . freed my Mind.
The trouble with sleeping with cats is
there isn't room left for parts of me
(as the night grows).
I adjust my body in the bed, comfort an arm or leg
in small stretches of belonging,
or feel for a cool or warm spot for feet
(depending on the time of year);
But when I come back to a place it isn't there.
The cat has melted and flattened, smoothed into my bed,
all the places I have touched taken over and he owns it all
by midnight.
There are birds who are big and tall
But the one I had was cute and small
He was indeed green and yellow
And brought up to be so very mellow
He flew around the entire house or walked on the floor like a little mouse
Chirping and singing,
Flapping and winging
He sat on my shoulder
While I wrote in my folder
He'll be with me always and forever
Because we lived so happily together
There is no happiness like that of being loved by your fellow creatures,
and feeling that your presence is an addition to their comfort.
There is no limit to the power of loving. ~ John Morton
There is only one happiness in life:
To love and to be loved
There never, ever was a reason
We didn't ride in any season,
We rode in rain and cold and mud -
We'd go through heat and wind and crud.
For nineteen years, we'd both do this,
And when together - feeling bliss;
Driving to you in suspense,
You'd be waiting at the fence.
~ Becky Fragasse
They were all there waiting fervently for you --
... to fly across the extended deep blue sea,
... to chirp upon the tallest tree,
... to sing a song of love and life,
... your presence with family and friends,
but 'Death' as perennial as life
surpasses time in all its spheres, in all its domain.
My dear little bird, your life was all that I sought for,
but all is dead, buried deep within the cover
save the flowers collected to heap a bed for you,
and so when you, my dear mynah, is gone,
memories of you shall linger on.
~ May Young
Time will heal the gaping hole, that you left in my heart
But right now I still feel as if I’m going to fall apart
I wish that I could see you
Watch you run, and jump and climb
I wish that I could see you
To say “I love you” one more time
~ Maya Hayden – Evans
True friends are always together in spirit...
True friends are like diamonds – bright, beautiful and valuable
True friends are like diamonds – bright, beautiful, valuable, and always in style.
Unconditional love is what he gave to me
From the look in his eye it was all you could see
Sometimes I'd yell "be quiet, lay down"
He'd lay in the corner and not make a sound
As he grew old and couldn't get around
I forgot how he'd greet me with a leap and a bound
Soon came the time he could no longer stand on his own
I picked him up and carried him to see God's home
On the way there I remembered all the good years
I looked at my friend through all of my tears
I told him I loved him
Soon the pain would be gone
I did the hardest thing
I ever have done
I went the last mile
I was there to the end
I know now why they call him
"Man's Best Friend"
Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.
We are never alone. We think we are, but we aren't.
We were blessed to have you, even though the time was short,
You were one in a million, my love, the best sort.
So my friend, I'll bid you farewell - I know we'll meet again,
I'll see you standing on the bridge and know I'm home again
~ Nikki Overton
We worried when he wasn't feeling well and not eating all his food
He was not his happy frisky self
and in a sleepy mood.
We fussed and catered to his needs
though full with growing fears
Trying to repay him for his deeds
and love throughout the years.
What greater gift than the love of a cat.
What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.
When God created kitty cats,
He had no recipe;
He knew He wanted something sweet,
As sweet as sweet could be.
He started out with sugar,
Adding just a trace of spice;
Then stirred in drops of morning dew,
To keep them fresh and nice.
He thought cats should be soft to pet,
Thus He gave them coats of fur;
So they could show they were content,
He taught them how to purr.
He made them into acrobats,
And gave them grace and poise;
Their wide-eyed curiosity,
He took from little boys.
He gave them eyes as big as saucers,
To look into man's soul;
Then set a tolerance for mankind,
As their purpose and their goal.
When my cat opened his eyes,
the sun got in
When he closed his eyes,
the sun stayed in
That’s why in the night
when my cat was waking
I saw in the dark
bits of sun, shining
When we love, there is no reason why. ~ Vanna Bonta
When you left me in the dark of night,
my heart went with you on your eternal flight.
And one day soon when I too am old and frail,
I will be there to meet you on that happy trail.
~ Tammy Kelley
Where you find true friendship, you find true love.
Wherever you are - know I love you.
Why do you look at me in that forlorn way?
Are you cold and hungry in this winter's day?
Why do you gaze with tears in your clear green eyes,
They are so translucent under the matching skies.
You look so familiar, like someone I know,
But sadly, last year, he had to go.
He burrowed deep into my heart,
Made me cry when we had to part.
If you think I would adopt and care for you,
And then rear you up faithful and true,
Then only to lose another life once again,
You're right, so don't just stand there, come on in!
With heavy hearts and a tear in our eyes,
after all these years, we must say goodbye.
Please understand, we've done all we could,
if there was anything we could do, you know we would.
I'm sitting right here, gently rubbing your ears,
while I talk to you softly, trying to hold back the tears.
The memories you gave us, we'll never forget,
especially the ones of the day we all met.
One last hug and one last kiss,
you have no idea how much you'll be missed.
To look into your eyes this one last time,
you tell me it's ok...you know it's your time.
Close your eyes now and go to sleep.
We'll pray to the Lord, your soul he'll keep.
Go in peace now, our good friend,
We'll stay right here with you, until the end.
Dream of that special day and time,
when we'll meet at the Bridge and all will be fine.
We'll run and play side-by-side,
with a soft warm feeling deep down inside.
Your memory will live on in each one of us
You'll always be number one to all of us.
Have a safe journey through the night.
I promise when you awake, you'll be in God's light.
So with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes,
just for now my friend...we say goodbye.
~ "Goodbye" poem by John Quealy
With my goat, so small and funny
I went walking every day
In our garden, green and sunny
I and Beauty loved to play
With your wings held high
You put a smile on my face
With all your might
You always left your trace
Never did I see you frown
For your smile was never upside down
Why is it that you loved me so
Was I part of your soul
You were always by my side
And although you are no longer on my shoulder
I can still feel your presence
Your fluff warming my heart
I will always miss you
And I know the favour will be returned some day
For when I see you once again
It will be in the sky
Where you will once again hold your wings up high
You were my little bunny; You meant everything to me. You were so sweet like honey With your cute button nose And your big brown eyes. I miss you bunny
